In a unexpected partnership that breaks traditional forecasts, Ubisoft has unveiled an in-game partnership between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the popular anime series Attack on Titan. The surprising holiday event runs from November 25 through December 22, offering free extra story content for Shadows players.

Mysterious Mission Revealed

According to the official announcement, "An unusual encounter pulls characters Naoe and Yasuke into a new mission, where whispers of forbidden practices and monstrous changes echo through the obscurity." The storyline presents a "unusually garbed woman named Ada" who charges the characters with journeying into the Crystalline Cavern—a significant location from Attack on Titan—to save her ally from a secret group.

The mission focuses on "bizarre experiments and a terrifying enemy" and is open to all players who have unlocked the Yasuke character.

Recognizable Places and Metamorphoses

The trailer highlights the Underground Chapel from Attack on Titan redesigned as the Crystal Cave. This important location was previously where the Reiss royal family handed down the Founding Titan ability through generations. The preview ends with a powerful sequence showing a character, probably the hostage, morphing into a Titan that towers over Naoe and Yasuke.

Special Items and Bonus Material

Players who accomplish the mission will obtain an unique katana in addition to several items concealed throughout the area in hidden chests. The update also contains purchasable Attack on Titan item packs, including:

• Titan-themed attire for Yasuke
• Mikasa costume for Naoe
• Exclusive arms
• Survey Corps vehicle

Newest Free Story Update

This release also introduces the game's third complimentary story content, titled "The Mystery." This humorous adventure teams Naoe and Yasuke as they swap signature techniques: Naoe introduces a performative interpretation of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke learns non-fatal stealth takedowns. True to its name, "The Mystery" also features a new environmental puzzle that may ultimately explain some unanswered questions from the main storyline.

Previous Japanese Animation Collaborations

This signifies hardly the first time the Assassin's Creed franchise has collaborated with well-known anime properties. The series formerly included a 2020 cross-promotional story linking Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Additionally, Valhalla unofficially included a quest that obviously nodded to the famous series One-Punch Man.
