Arne Slot Asserts He Is Safe and Has The Club's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Loss

The Liverpool head coach conceded that it's natural for questions to be raised about his future following a further heavy defeat against PSV Eindhoven.

Liverpool endured their 9th loss in twelve games, representing the club's poorest run since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.

They were taken apart by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing evening at Anfield.

“I'm confident, I'm fine, I have got plenty of support from above,” Slot remarked.

“It would be nice to change things and secure a win of course but if you are coaching a team and not doing well then it is normal that people question you.”

He added, “I'm comfortable with my position. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we turned it around.”

Discussions with The Board

When asked to provide details on his conversations with the club's leadership, Slot said:

“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful to the team and to me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me constantly each day to say they back me.”

He further stated, “Through standard discussions I sense the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them after this defeat so far so let’s see.”

Familiar Failings and Squad Response

Slot lamented recurring failings from his squad in their Champions League defeat, namely poor finishing and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was blunter in his assessment of the current crisis.

“I don’t have the answers. Frankly, I do not. I'm telling that to all,” the midfielder said.

“It's simply unacceptable. I don't have to wait to reflect. I’m past getting mad inside. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the words.”

He added, “It's difficult because I play for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club since I was young.”

“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Reds side enduring a phase such as this with results so bad.”

Jones finished, “However we still have the emblem on our shirts. And until that badge is taken away, we’re always going to fight.”

“We will attempt to bring this squad return to where it needs to be, prove again what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the best team in the world.”

“However currently, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
