Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Ignites Heated Discussions Over AI Players, Experience Points, and Queue Times
Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a new game mode titled Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode mirrors the standard Breakthrough setup but includes a few notable changes:
- Each team includes only eight human participants, with the remaining made up of 32 bots.
- Activities done by real players award full XP, while AI activities offer reduced XP.
- Only two maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
- Elements like Player tags, accolades, and stat tracking have been turned off.
So essentially, this mode lives up to its title: it offers a laid-back version of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume there's nothing wrong, since it provides additional choices for players seeking alternative methods to have fun with the game. But, if video games has shown one thing, it's that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, many Battlefield 6 fans are upset.
Community Reactions: From Fury to Support
"Gamers prefer human opponents. Don't repeat the mistakes of your rivals," reads one reply to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking concept," comments a different user. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user remarks, "It's unclear where we are going with this title," and another details everything they believe to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."
However, for every complaint, some gamers sharing how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to practice, real players prevent it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," says a forum post. "The community doesn't understand that there are gamers who actually go outside and can't play this game 24/7. Allow them to find a middle ground," states another. A response on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," while someone else applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Constructive Concerns and Player Feedback
Despite the support, there are valid points to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have highlighted that it could increase queue times even longer for other modes due to the large amount of playlists currently available. Similarly, certain regions often face mostly bots in the existing playlists. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a required amount of human gamers, despite it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.
Finally, a major grievances is that Battlefield Portal was promised to offer full XP, including AI matches, but that got canned when they attempted to remove XP farming from the mode. So this new playlist feels like the community meeting them in the middle, according to forum feedback. Another labels this addition as the developers "dropping the ball significantly, I experienced great enjoyment in the initial release, what prompted them to adjust it?"
Looking Ahead: Adjustments Occur?
Should Battlefield Studios has proven anything to date with Battlefield 6, it's that they're listening and acting on feedback. Assignments that were overly hard were adjusted very quickly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, if their data shows this recent mode isn't performing to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
