Edwards and O'Neil are two of the initial candidates under consideration to succeed the former manager as manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Pereira was dismissed on Sunday following the squad's 10-match without a victory start to the top-flight season.

Furthermore Edwards and O'Neil - both of who have historic links to the club - are among the options to be considered by the club ownership.

The manager is currently at Middlesbrough, which would pose a potential hurdle to his hiring at Wolves' stadium.

However the ex- Luton manager - who played over a century of appearances for the club during his time as a player - is considered a leading contender for the position.

The mid-career manager is reportedly enjoys support from the club board as they begin the process of hiring a fresh manager.

O'Neil is also appearing as a surprise candidate, although he would be a shock choice given he was released by Wolves in December last year.

The ex- West Ham player is out of work which means the club would not need to pay any compensation.
