Alina Habba has left her position as New Jersey's top federal prosecutor. This decision was prompted by a judicial decision that invalidated her eligibility to occupy the role.
Official Departure
The head of the Justice Department, Pam Bondi, announced her stepping down on Monday. She commented that the judicial decision made it unworkable for the official to lead the department effectively.
"Let no one confuse adherence to the ruling as defeat," she declared. "My fight will now extend throughout the country."
Judicial Challenge
Her resignation comes a week after a federal appellate panel determined that she had been unlawfully serving as US attorney. This judgment is likely to affect scores of criminal cases in New Jersey.
The judicial panel declared that a acting appointment that did not receive the advice and consent of the Senate violated the statute on vacant positions.

Habba, was initially recruited to Trump's personal legal team in recent years. She later defended her client in his New York criminal case in New York last year, which resulted in his conviction on 34 counts of document fraud.
Earlier, Habba took on the top New Jersey post, Donald Trump had announced he was selecting her as his senior adviser during his second administration, calling Habba as deeply loyal and a "tireless advocate for justice".
