Tottenham Manager Frank Calls Goalkeeper Critics 'Not True Genuine Supporters'

The Cottagers Begin Powerfully to Defeat Spurs and Raise Pressure on Frank

Spurs supporters who jeered keeper Guglielmo Vicario were informed afterwards "they cannot be true Tottenham fans" by boss Frank.

Tottenham let in a pair of scores in the opening initial moments to lose 2-1 to Fulham, registering their 10th Premier League home defeat of 2025.

But the main topic of discussion was Fulham's second score when the keeper lost the ball well outside his box.

He came out to deal with a high pass and carried the ball towards the sideline.

However, instead of kicking it out of play, the Italian spun and attempted to clear, but lost his footing as the ball glanced off Wilson and was controlled by Josh King.

King passed the ball off to Wales midfielder Harry Wilson, who curled a shot into the net from the sideline measured at thirty-six point six metres.

Moments afterwards when the ball went to the keeper again, some Tottenham fans booed him.

Spurs were booed off at the interval, with the club 2-0 behind, and again at the final whistle.

One of those booing episodes truly irritated the manager.

"It came to my attention a few of our fans apparently booed the situation and booed after, which, in my view is completely unacceptable," the Danish manager stated regarding the fans' response to his goalkeeper.

"[They] cannot be real Spurs fans that do that. Fair enough booing after the game, no problem, but when we are playing, we are supporting each other, we are behind each other moving ahead."

Tete had given the visitors a early advantage before Wilson's goal – with Kudus netting for Tottenham in an better second-half showing.

Ex- top-flight keeper Hart remarked that the next goal was "totally avoidable".

"I certainly appreciate the supporters' disappointment," Hart continued. "I am aware the part Vicario is playing. He is a excellent squad member, he's a true figure in the dressing room but ultimately you are going to be assessed by your decisions.

"The keeper was deeply involved in what ended up to be the decisive goal."

'It's Part of Football, I Can Handle It'

Thomas Frank Defended His Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario After the Match

Italy international the keeper is in his 3rd season with Tottenham.

The 29-year-old said following the game that he had to take the criticism.

"The second goal was a error of mine, I take accountability for it," he said.

"The intent was to clear the ball long and I simply hit the ball in a poor manner. It was an more difficult mountain to climb."

He said receiving jeers "comes with football".

"I am mature, what can I say?" he added. "The team can't be affected by the situation in the stands. The fans have the entitlement to do what they think.

"It is on the team to stay more composed, to focus on ourselves. We are missing in calmness and poise to overturn outcomes. Today is a poor loss and it's hard to take."

'It Shocked Me No One Returned to the Line'

Despite Vicario's mistake, it was far from an easy goal for Harry Wilson to score.

Actually it was the second most distant top division score of the campaign – after Adams' 43.3 metre strike for Bournemouth against Sunderland, which incidentally too came on Saturday.

The goalscorer said he was "a little bit taken aback" that he still had an empty goal to aim for.

Ten seconds passed between the keeper coming out of his box and Wilson shooting – which was 5 seconds after the kick.

"I felt like the goalkeeper was out of the area for a long time," Wilson remarked.

"It amazed me none of the defenders went back to the goal line. When none of them covered the net, my interest lit up somewhat.

"Udogie slipped as well, which gave me a bit of extra time. After that it was solely about attempting to make the right contact and place it towards goal. I felt a positive sense, the moment it came off my foot, that it was on the right line."

'When You're in a Poor Run, All Appears to Go Against You'

Jeering Whilst We Are Still in Play Is Totally Unacceptable - the Manager

While the keeper's mistake dominated coverage, this was an overall bad day for Spurs to continue their home struggles.

The match was their tenth home loss of 2025 in the Premier League, a shared club statistic along with nineteen ninety-four and two thousand and three.

They still have home games against Frank's old side the Bees and champions the Reds to come before the end of the season.

Only one of those victories have come after the manager took over from Ange Postecoglou in the off-season.

"When you're down 2-0 following six minutes, there is a mountain to climb," stated Frank.

"When you're in a poor run, all aspects seems to go against you as well – the opening was a deflected shot, the next is a error from Vic.

"The outcome leaves us in a place where we have lost an additional match. Every game has a unique narrative, this game we were defeated in the first six minutes.

"We simply need to keep working. The second half was much better and hopefully something we can utilize to learn."

Spurs have been defeated in 4 consecutive home capital clashes for the initial time in the top division.

And they are recording 9.5 shots and three point two shots on target per match in the division – their lowest averages on record in a one campaign (dating back to the 2003-04 season).

Former Fulham midfield player Danny Murphy stated that Frank has to ride the storm.

"He's got accept the stick," Murphy remarked. "He has taken a high profile role at a major football club with enormous expectation. There is pressure and responsibility that accompanies that.

"The performances at their stadium have been disappointing and they have to improve {quickly|
