US Military Conducts Lethal Strike in Eastern Pacific, Leading to 4 Deaths
As stated by a high-ranking defense spokesperson, the American armed forces executed a lethal strike on a vessel in the eastern Pacific, resulting in the deaths of four people.
“A US joint task force conducted a deadly attack on a craft operated by a Designated Terrorist Organization in international waters. Intelligence confirmed the vessel was transiting along a established drug smuggling route and was involved in narco-trafficking operations. All four male narco-terrorists were eliminated, and no American forces were harmed.”
Context and Prior Strikes
The statement comes a day after an announcement regarding a naval blockade of all sanctioned oil tankers to and from Venezuela. That statement on social media, the American leader alleged Venezuela of using oil revenues to fund drug trafficking and other crimes, pledging to escalate the military buildup.
Only on the previous day, US defense officials stated it had carried out strikes on three boats suspected of trafficking drugs in the Pacific, killing eight people. Since 2 September, more than 20 military engagements have resulted in the deaths of at least 99 people, most off the coast of Venezuela.
Government Justifies Tactics Amidst Pressure
The government has encountered growing demands to release video of a 2 September vessel attack. However, officials have declined to do so. The administration has supported its efforts as a success, saying it has prevented drugs from entering US shores and has dismissed concerns that it is stretching the bounds of lawful warfare.
While the administration has stated the campaign is about halting drugs destined for the US, remarks from a top official appeared to confirm a broader geopolitical objective. In a recent interview, the senior advisor remarked the leader “aims to keep on blowing boats up until Venezuela's president cries uncle.”
This indicates the series of strikes may be part of a strategy to remove Venezuela's sitting government.
